About Fairuse Akter
An explorer and an aspirant biodiversity conservation researcher. I seek to delve deeper into the study of the human-nature nexus and strive to foster more harmonious coexistence. I have gained brief experience in wildlife conservation at the Creative Conservation Alliance, working with Western Hoolock Gibbons and a few other wild animals. I am also working as an Associate Trainer at Mekateam, a game-based pedagogy where I provide training on basic climate literacy and biodiversity conservation to youth. Moreover, I synthesize and express my understanding of biodiversity and the natural world through my initiative, 'Toru.' Currently, I am undertaking research on Asian Elephants addressing the human-elephant conflict in Bangladesh.

So good to hear about your achievements, sister!
I read the newsletter and loved how you're engaging youth, not only those in schools, but also out-of-school and vulnerable youth groups.
Best wishes for WildEd! I hope it scales up and creates a whole youth movement of earth protectors!🌻
Thank you so much for sharing another inspiring interview, Fairuse! Also, congratulations on reaching your third interview in the WildHub Conservation Catalyst Programme! 🌿
@Kazi Zenifar Azmiri Zenin: thank you for sharing your journey so openly. I was especially inspired by your vision of creating birdwatching opportunities specifically for girls. I hope your story encourages many more young women to pursue careers in conservation.
I have a question for either of you: if that birdwatching initiative for girls were to become a reality, what would you hope participants would take away from the experience? Not only as future conservationists, but also as individuals?
Thank you again for this thoughtful conversation. I'm already looking forward to your next interview, Fairuse! 👏
Thank you so much, Thirza. It's a great honor to have this conversation with Zenin Azmiri!🌿
As for the birdwatching initiative, I can't speak on Zenin Azmiri's behalf, but from my understanding, initiatives like this are about more than what the eyes see. Dhaka is such a concrete-heavy city that biodiversity has declined severely, yet if we pause and observe, there are animals that are remarkably adaptive, surviving, and even thriving. These small miracles often go unnoticed. Initiatives like this give us a platform to become more conscious, to stay present, and to be bolder when change is needed (or needs to be stopped).
So yes, it's "just" birdwatching, but it's more rooted in our own behavioral change than we tend to realize.🪶
Thank you for sharing Zenin’s inspiring story and for bringing voices like hers to WildHub.
Her journey is a powerful reminder that women play a vital role in conservation, not only through their expertise and resilience but also through the empathy and leadership they bring to protecting nature.
A wonderful interview - well done Fairuse!
