Currently, I'm working as a student intern at Forest Research and Training Centre under the Ministry of Forest and Environment, Nepal as a part of my undergraduate research study. I am a fresh graduate student from IPB University, Indonesia, with a bachelor in Marine Sciences. I have a strong interest in conservation, specifically in Elasmobranch conservation for sharks and rays. I am planning to pursue higher learning in conservation and hoping to develop and manage Sawfish Project Indonesia as my first time to lead the conservation project. The project will be performed in Merauke, Indonesia, to find science-based information about the presence of Sawfish in Indonesia, to monitor the population distribution, and to identify means to reduce targets and bycatch of Sawfish there. My biggest ambition is to become a who is capable of combining both science and social approach to protect Elasmobranch species in Indonesia.

I am an enthusiastic and progressive conservation professional with over 15 years of experience in zoological institutions and conservation non-profits. I currently work as part of a unique partnership between the IUCN SSC and the Indianapolis Zoo as part of the Global Center for Species Survival. Throughout my career, I have focused on the role of zoos as conservation organizations, serving as a bridge between in situ and ex situ conservation. I am a firm supporter of the IUCN’s One Plan Approach to conservation. My range of experience provides a broad foundation to draw from and offers unique insights for problem-solving and partnership engagement. I have experience working for and with domestic and international conservation non-profits. My focus includes supporting the development of conservation skills, utilizing innovative tools, technologies, and approaches to tackle conservation challenges, and emphasizing the contributions of local communities to wildlife conservation. I strongly believe in the power of storytelling as a conservation tool. I am eager to connect with other conservationists and offer them support, skills, and training to aid in their ongoing work.

I have worked in Further and Higher Education for most of my career. I have experience of project management, stakeholder management, business administration and process improvement. My last role was as a Research Student Manager looking after over 300 PhD computer science students. I decided to chase my dream of working in conservation when I had the opportunity to take voluntary redundancy...if not now, when? was finally the question that make me take the big scary jump. I'm really interested in rewilding, reintroducing species, habitat maintenance and general health of our world's wildlife and habitats. As a career switcher I have limited experience in conservation but have always been around animals and not afraid to get my hands dirty having worked on a farm when I was younger, and I'm keen horse rider. I am currently seeking local volunteer opportunities. Lock-down has obviously made things a bit harder to get as involved as I'd hoped, but am exploring the options that are available remotely.

I am a marine conservationist / biologist whose passion for the ocean has been since I was young. I have been involved in tagging and releasing  juvenile great whites and rescued stranded sea lions. Now, I am building a Young Ambassadors Program for individuals who are looking to create their own path for marine conservation. 

I am a science communicator - in the early part of my career but learning quickly.  My main platform is The Curious Environmentalist but I also have a personal website and I have recently started a newsletter on Substack. I currently write and do podcasts, but I am hoping to expand into videos too. My whole ethos is about making science accessible to anyone who is curious.  I'd love to connect! 

Highly experienced in supporting policy and decision making through delivering data on marine species, coastal pollution, and water delivery on the local, state, and federal levels. Early in my career I took every opportunity I could to gain experience in marine mammal science from California to Quebec. These opportunities created strong connections eventually guiding me to researching plastic pollution while earning my masters degree. As I finished writing my thesis, I began working with NASA on projects using satellite imagery and big data to investigate drought, this experience immensely strengthened my project management, mapping, and analytical skills. Last year I ventured into conservation writing wanting to build on my science communication skills. I proudly serve as the INDUSTRY 5.0 Ambassador in Tanzania, advocating for sustainable industrial practices, and I also hold the role of Tanzania Coordinator at the Global Sustainable Future Progress through Partnership network. My journey towards environmental and social progress has been rich and diverse. I previously contributed to the Tanzania Development Trust as a mapper, utilizing geographical data to support development initiatives. Additionally, my commitment to global betterment led me to join the United Nations Volunteers program in 2016, where I've continued to make a meaningful impact. Together, we can explore the vast realm of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and how they intertwine with my experiences and endeavors. I'm a marine ecologist passionate about communication and engaging local communities in shifting towards environmental sustainability.
