Are you a wildlife conservationist who is making an impact in your home country? Would funding, training and international recognition be a game-changer in your project? If so, click the link to read more about applying for a Whitley Award.

Not you, but sounds like someone you know? Then please share this opportunity with your network.

The search for our next cohort of Whitley Award winners has started. We're looking to support conservation leaders who are:

  • Mid-career for whom additional funding and exposure could take their project to the next level
  • Leading grassroots conservation projects in the Global South
  • Collaborative with strong community involvement to inspire action
  • Have proven success and are now seeking to scale up science-led solutions

What is a Whitley Award?

Whitley Awards are Whitley Fund for Nature's flagship prize and are awarded to effective, mid-career conservationists working and living in the Global South. The Award supports community-based projects which are poised for scale up and use the latest available science to benefit wildlife, people and the climate. These coveted prizes are won competitively following assessment by an expert judging panel and are presented by our Patron, HRH The Princess Royal, at a ceremony held each Spring in London.

Upon winning Whitley Award, grantees join our network of over 200 conservationists with access to training, networking and knowledge exchange opportunities. On completion of their Whitley Award project, winners are eligible to apply for further continuation grants worth up to £100,000.

What impact does winning a Whitley Award have?

Winning a Whitley Award can be a life-changing moment in a conservationist's career, putting them on a global stage, garnering media attention, opening political doors and inspiring philanthropic support from new sources - all kickstarting a snowball effect to increase impact on the ground.

Our 2026 Whitley Award winners will receive:

  • £50,000 in project funding over one year
  • Global media spotlight on their work
  • Career development support and training
  • Access to a 200 strong peer network across 80 Global South countries
  • Professional communications and media training
  • Tailor-made films, PR assistance and publicity materials
  • Eligibility for laddered Continuation Funding and the Whitley Gold Award
