What if restoring Scotland's seas could help tackle biodiversity loss, capture carbon and support thriving coastal communities?

This September, you have the opportunity to discover exactly how.

SCOTLAND: The Big Picture has teamed up with the award-winning charity Seawilding to deliver an inspiring Learning Day on 11 September in the beautiful surroundings of Loch Craignish, Ardfern, Argyll. This hands-on experience offers a unique opportunity to explore one of the UK's leading community-led marine restoration projects.

Discover the power of rewilding beneath the waves

While rewilding is often associated with forests and wildlife on land, Scotland's coastal waters hold incredible potential for nature recovery. During the Learning Day, participants will explore how restoring native oyster beds and seagrass meadows can transform marine ecosystems, improve water quality, lock away carbon and create vital habitats for fish and other marine life.

A day of practical learning

Whether you're a conservation professional, student, community volunteer or simply passionate about nature, the Learning Day combines expert talks with practical field experience.

You'll learn about:

  • The benefits of marine rewilding and why oysters and seagrass are key to restoring healthy seas.
  • Native oyster restoration, including project planning, monitoring techniques and habitat surveys.
  • Seagrass restoration, from site assessment to best-practice restoration methods.
  • The challenges and opportunities involved in bringing coastal ecosystems back to life.

Who should attend?

This event is ideal for:

  • Community groups interested in marine habitat restoration.
  • Students and graduates pursuing careers in ecology, marine science or conservation.
  • Environmental professionals looking to expand their rewilding knowledge.
  • Anyone who wants to experience Scotland's nature recovery in action.

Be part of Scotland's rewilding journey

SCOTLAND: The Big Picture is working towards a future where rewilded land and seas support flourishing wildlife, healthier ecosystems and resilient communities. This Learning Day offers a rare opportunity to experience that work firsthand while gaining practical skills to support rewilding in action.
