I am an Agricultural Engineer in Natural Resources Management: Fauna and Flora from the University of Kinshasa. I did my academic internships respectively at the Congolese Institute for Nature Conservation (ICCN) where I was assigned to the zoological garden of Kinshasa, and at the National Institute of Study and Agronomic Research (INERA) at the station of Mvuazi in the province of Central Kongo.  I followed online training courses provided by the African Protected Areas and Conservation Program of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), where I passed online exams on protected area management in Africa and species conservation in African protected areas.  Currently, I am a volunteer member of the International Union for Conservation of Nature in the World Commission on Protected Areas, but also responsible for the commission: Conservation of Nature and Climate Change within the NGO Kimbala Development. Following the World Youth Summit of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) in April 2021 in which I participated; under my initiative and some African comrades from other countries, we are in the process of setting up a Conservation Network of Endemic Biodiversity of Africa (CNBEA) whose main objectives are the following: To create an active solidarity around the conservation of the endemic biodiversity of Africa; Establish a space for sharing knowledge, opportunities, common challenges and innovations around the conservation of Africa's endemic biodiversity; To constitute a representative network of lobbying for the conservation and the research of the endemic species of Africa; Valuing Africa's endemic biodiversity through the promotion of ecotourism; To promote African traditional knowledge on the conservation of Africa's endemic biodiversity; To promote environmental education. In addition, I am the designer of a project whose reference theme is: the study of the impact of human activities on the African manatee and its natural habitat. This project suffers from a lack of funding to date.  I have also completed a thesis entitled: chronological analysis of daily rainfall as an indicator of climate change in the city of Kinshasa.

I'm a Conservation biologist holding 6 years of both experience at site and regional level (Congo basin) working with Conservation NGO. With good knowledge in Law Enforcement, Ecological Monitoring and Community Based Natural Resources Management for protected area management.

I work for a marine science & conservation non-profit studying species and habitats in the Salish Sea and beyond. Much of our work involves looks at how anthropogenic impacts like vessel traffic and underwater noise change the behavior of threatened populations such as southern resident killer whales. Other topics we work on include cetacean distribution and habitat use, the estimated effects of deep sea mining, salmon preservation, and habitat restoration. I have skills in GIS, R, and ecological modeling. I am most interested in research involving spatial data, oceanography, and marine vertebrate behavior. I previously worked on field projects studying cetaceans in British Columbia and sea turtles in Costa Rica, the US, and Australia. I completed an MRes in Marine Biology at the University of Plymouth where I used density surface models to assess the distribution and abundance of harbour porpoises around the UK.

My name is Irene Kananura Natukunda. I am the Co-founder and COO at Biodiversity Hub International (BHI), an environmental scientist, a passionate conservationist and a nature lover. In the past 4 years, i worked as a volunteer as several organisations including Global Youth Biodiversity Network (GYBN-Uganda), Earth Day Network, Fridays for Future-Uganda, Nature Uganda, Youth Go Green and many other where i learnt a lot and became more passionate about nature conservation. I am so interested in engaging in activities that contribute towards nature restoration and climate change mitigation such as planting trees on degraded forests and creating awareness in communities around wildlife protected areas to reduce human-wildlife conflicts that result into poaching and illegal trade of critically endangered species. I like to connect and engage with like-minded people which i believe has helped me to increase my knowledge and understanding in the field of biodiversity conservation. I help in write project proposals and concepts for my organisation which has truly been a great learning journey. As Programme Director for Selamatkan Yaki, an integrated species conservation programme based in Northern Sulawesi, Indonesia I am responsible for planning and rolling out various projects to work towards our objectives across a multiple year framework. Our programme works towards protecting the habitat and remaining populations of the Critically Endangered Sulawesi crested black macaque (Macaca nigra), whilst supporting local initiatives, developing alternatives to hunting and capacity building for the local people. I am also the Co-Founder of Lestari Environmental Education Consultancy. Lestari cultivates regenerative change through innovative and engaging social science approaches. Drawing from a rich resource and experience base of behavioural chance best practice, Lestari offers a service to academic institutions, NGOs, businesses and other change makers across the following central domains: advocacy and communications, facilitation, and research and evaluation. Collaborative pathways are catalysed to undertake transformative research, develop strategy and policy and facilitate events and training such as participatory workshops and nature-based experiential learning to foster change. In addition to this role, I am undertaking a part time PhD in Human Geography, primarily focused on the understudied area of conservation advocacy. Integrated into the programme, this study examines anthropological causes of species' declines and potential mitigation strategies based on behavioural change mechanisms such as community based social marketing. It is predicted that the mutual and synergistic goals of filling gaps in our understanding of mechanisms of advocacy whilst enhancing in-situ conservation strategies will be achieved. Previous positions have seen the development of my experience in primate conservation and research as a primatologist for Operation Wallacea in Sulawesi and conducting research on primate health in Kalimantan, Indonesian Borneo. In addition to my field experience, I have been involved in ex-situ management, working as experienced keeper in the primate department and quarantine at Stichting AAP in The Netherlands. I completed an MSc in Primate Conservation at Oxford Brookes University, UK in 2010. With this range of experience I have developed a commitment for working in conservation to support efforts to halt the loss of biodiversity and live in harmony with our fellow primates.

I am a conservation biologist, with proven experience in research development, project management and field research. To date, most of my experience relates to biodiversity in human-modified landscapes. I am devoted to understanding the impact of human-modified landscapes on biodiversity but also the role they play in conservation. My primary areas of focus include multifunctional land management, sustainable agriculture and biodiversity conservation. I am adamant that we can develop and foster land-use practices that provide communities with sustainable livelihoods, whilst conserving local and regional biodiversity.
