Hi! My name is Fay and I'm a budding chiropterologist. I've been researching bats since my postgraduate degree in 2016. I have worked for both conservation NGOs and ecological consultancies in Mauritius, Malawi and the UK. Now I am studying towards my PhD at Kyoto University where my research focuses on one of the lesser known endemic species, Myotis pruinosus.

Indoor or outdoor, as long as I'm working for nature I'm happy! I currently work as a Programs Coordinator with The Thin Green Line Foundation, drawing on my past experiences working in the field to help Rangers globally. Our work focusses on providing Training, Equipment, Emergency Aid and Networking Opportunities for the people working on the frontlines of conservation. As a former Ranger myself, I adore being outside and connecting others with nature. Personally, I have interests in community development and capacity building, the interface between conservation science and environmental policy, and rewilding! I'm a keen birder and hill-walker, currently exploring Victoria, Australia.

Ricardo Nogueira Martins (Luzern 1990) is the Executive Director of the Local Protected Landscape of Sousa Superior, and a Researcher collaborator at CECS - Communication and Society Research Centre, a leading research unit of the University of Minho. He holds an MSc in Geography - Planning and Territory Management, and a PgDip in EU Policies and Territorial Cooperation from the University of Minho. During his academic career, he studied at the University of the Balearic Islands, Spain, and worked as a research fellow. He is a member of the World Commission on Protected Areas (WCPA) of the IUCN, a member of the Scientific Committee of the UNESCO Fourth Colony Geopark, and qualified in EIA – Environmental Impact Assessment as a competent expert in Territory and Soil by QPAIA. He truly believes in green diplomacy.

I'm currently working with Cumbria Wildlife Trust, The Crown Estate, Ørsted and Natural England as a Marine Futures Intern. I returned to the UK in 2020 after working in Alderney for a year as the Ramsar Officer for Alderney Wildlife Trust, responsible for leading the Ramsar Programme for the island's marine Ramsar site; home to two gannet colonies, breeding puffins, guillemots, gulls and grey seals etc. I was involved in everything from project management, ecological surveys, research (my favourite projects researched the impact of anthropogenic materials (mainly plastic fishing line) on gannets), events and, engaging and advising the government. Prior to this I worked as a Research Assistant in Seville and gained a qualification in European Community Development. I graduated with a BSc in Environmental Science in 2017.

I am a PhD researcher at the School of Animal, Rural and Environmental Sciences, Nottingham Trent University. My thesis explores the status and behavioural ecology of leopard and spotted hyaena in Kasungu National Park, Malawi, and examines the ecology of large carnivores in a miombo woodland that has been subject to high levels of anthropogenic disturbance. My particular research interests are large carnivore ecology and conservation, camera trapping and spatial capture-recapture modelling.

Hello! I'm Rebecca, and I am currently Course Leader for Higher Education at East Durham College. I decided to join MSc Primate Conservation after being inspired during my BSc in Animal Conservation Science. I found a book called "Gorillas in the Mist" and I had a lightbulb moment - primates! I had found my niche. This was confirmed later when I travelled to The Gambia to census the critically endangered Procolobus badius temmincki, during my thesis studying the Callithrix jacchus, and travelling to India to work in a rehabilitation centre for grey langurs and macaques.  I absolutely loved the MSc. It broadened my knowledge, increased my opportunities and really kickstarted my professional career. The lecturers are some of the best the field and it was a privilege to be brushing shoulders with such hard-working academics on a daily basis. I conducted my MSc thesis research at Blackpool Zoo, focusing on Gorilla gorilla gorilla social relationships and enclosure use. The chance to work with this charismatic species was a dream come true! The research has helped the zoo redevelop their gorilla enclosure, using my data to make informed decisions. I am also very happy to be part of a fledgeling, yet crucial organisation: Mountain Marmosets Conservation Program. As part of the Core Operation and Development Team, I am responsible for applying for grants, coordinating a team of students to develop a workshop planning meeting, and researching anything and everything about marmosets! This wonderful program is aiming to help develop an Action Plan to help save the endangered marmoset species' Callithrix aurita and Callithrix flaviceps. I hope to become even more involved with the program as we progress. Finally, I hope to progress onto a PhD within the next five years, developing my expertise and skills in primate conservation. Stay tuned for more primate related content! 

Steve joined Wildlife Health Australia in April 2022 as the Program Manager - One Health Surveillance and Wildlife Collaborating Centre for Australia and the Indo-Pacific. Steve graduated from Massey University in New Zealand in ecology and veterinary science. He has worked as a wildlife clinician in several zoos, wildlife rehabilitation centres and conservation projects in Australia, Thailand, Cameroon and UK, and academia in the UK. Steve is a European specialist in Zoo Health Management and a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy in the UK. He has coordinated international, multidisciplinary wildlife health networks in Africa and South-East Asia. As a systems thinker in the One Health space, Steve aims to mitigate adverse environmental health impacts from human activity at the human-wildlife interface in the Indo-Pacific region through interdisciplinary research, capacity development and effective networked risk management. Steve’s research interests focus on wildlife infectious diseases, especially zoonoses, disease risk analysis and mental health of wildlife health practitioners.

I am a PhD candidate at the Durrell Institute of Conseration Ecology (DICE), hosted at the University of Kent. My research focuses on how land use change influences human well-being in central Indonesia. My background is in tropical forestry and development. Other research interests include the application of food systems thinking in forestry issues, biodiversity and food security at the forest-water interface, and the management of multifunctional landscapes across the tropics. I am a keen advocate of strengthening international and inclusive collaborations in forest and conservation research. I have a deep love for baking (please share with me your recipes!), basketball and peanut butter 🤩

Founder President of WildRoots-India, an organization for Climate, Environmental, Biodiversity Awareness & Conservation Education, based in Guwahati, Assam, India. Recipient of the National Green Mentor Award, Govt. of India and Global Teacher Accreditation from the British Council & Cambridge Education Foundation. As a Nationally recognised illustrator & designer, I primarily use Art and Design to connect the youth and communities to activities and programmes related to environmental protection, climate change mitigation and conservation.

Based in the UK. Passion for wildlife stems from living abroad and global travel to many national parks and protected areas in my youth and early adulthood. Degree qualifications in agricultural economics/rural resources/environmental policy. Worked in environmental consultancy projects and waste management (reduction, reuse, recycling) collaboration, campaigns, education and service. Volunteered part time 2010-2019 for wildlife charities (education/interpretation) and a national park (species surveys and water quality monitoring). Refreshed knowledge of ecology through online introductory course 2014. Completed certificate in ecological consultancy 2020 under lockdown and gained qualifying membership of CIEEM. Now wanting to mould and formalise project management experience in the wildlife conservation arena (while still in lockdown!) Feel the combination of skills and experience means I have a useful and valuable contribution to make towards improving the UK's biodiversity and state of nature, which has taken a big hit in the last decade. Would like to do this in a paid capacity, but definitely in a volunteer role if that's all I can find to start with! Have already started making a contribution.
