Reetika M

Projects Manager, Wildlife Protection Society of India

With a Master’s Degree in Wildlife Conservation and nearly 9 years of experience in India’s biodiversity conservation sector, my professional journey has been enriching and diverse. Having worked at both field and administrative levels, I have been fortunate to gain invaluable experiences that continue to shape my passion for wildlife conservation. I remain eager to learn, adapt, and contribute to this vital field. As a field wildlife veterinarian, I had the privilege of managing and coordinating operations at a wildlife rescue and rehabilitation center in Northeast India. This hands-on role allowed me to oversee the well-being of rescued wild animals, ensuring their proper care and rehabilitation. Later, I worked on a project focused on emergency response during natural disasters, collaborating with multiple teams under challenging conditions. My last field role involved working alongside a primary response team to mitigate human-wildlife conflicts in forest-fringe areas of North India. Outside of my formal roles, I actively volunteered in wildlife rescues, biodiversity surveys, and provided veterinary assistance, whenever possible. Currently, as a Projects Manager at a leading Wildlife Conservation Charity in India, I have transitioned into a strategic and administrative role. I oversee project planning, fundraising, and resource management. Additionally, I contribute to organizational operations, including financial planning and compliance. Bridging the gap between on-ground conservation efforts and strategic project management allows me to work effectively with interdisciplinary teams - which is always a great experince! My passion remains deeply rooted in protecting India’s rich and diverse ecosystems, and I am committed to making a meaningful impact in this field.

I am often called a conservation planning specialist, but my 25-year professional career also encompasses other components of biodiversity conservation projects, such as management; monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL) and technical auditing. Geographically, I specialize in Latin America and Africa, but my assignments have also included the projects in the Middle East, South-East Asia and Europe. I am used to work in different cultural, social and disciplinary settings, involving a number organisations and audiences, as well as a diversity of conservation projects, from large-scale conservation initiatives (Patagonia, the Amazon, Western Africa, Mozambique Channel), to community-based conservation projects (Brazil, Mexico, Peru, DRC). Namrata

Research Coordinator, Borneo Nature Foundation

I am a conservation researcher. I have delved into many aspects of conservation in my career, from rehabilitation, release and reintroductions and now researching biodiversity in unprotected areas of Borneo. My work has been focused in Indonesia and tropical systems. I began research in behavioural ecology of slow lorises in Java, Sumatra and Kalimantan. My interests in the inter-relatedness of an organism to its habitat/the ecosystem, has motivated me to conduct research at a broader scale moving from a species focused perspective. I am currently involved with the Defaunation Hub, DICE, University of Kent, and hope to start my PhD research on defaunation trends in three distinct habitat types in Central Kalimantan, Borneo.
