A warm welcome to WildHub, Rocío! What an incredible journey you had! What conservation projects did you work on in the Galápagos Islands?
Thank you very much for your warm welcome, Fairuse! 💚
First of all, sorry for my late response, but I've been settling in Germany these past few days.
Again, thank you for your appretiation of my work and effort, I really want to become a competent professional in order to try to make the world a little better. 🌍
Regarding your question, in the Galápagos Islands I was working in a project called "Restoration of Ecologically Essential Species through Integrated Research and Management: Beyond Rescue towards Complete Recovery". It was an international cooperation project between the University of Málaga and the NGO Galápagos Conservancy. 🏝️
In that project, I worked with several species, from giant tortoises to albatrosses and Scalesia (an endemic tree species), although my main task was helping at the giant tortoise breeding center and the NGO's information center. 🐢
If you're interested in knowing more, maybe I can write a separate post about my experience. Let me know whether you think that's a good idea.
Thank you for your comment and I'm looking forward to sharing and connecting again.
Kind regards,
Rocío
🌎 Welcome to WildHub, Rocío!
It’s a joy to welcome someone whose journey blends scientific research with hands-on conservation across continents. From microbial communities in Málaga’s freshwater sediments to species restoration in the Galápagos and avian migration work in Germany, your path is rich with insight and impact.
Your involvement with WILDCARES SP and your dedication to nature-based solutions, beneficial fauna, and environmental education make you a valuable voice in this community. We’re excited to learn from you and collaborate!
Speaking of your current work, I'm really curious about your research in avian migration ecology. What patterns or species behaviors have surprised you the most during your time in Germany? Your lens, combining urban biodiversity experience with migratory studies, must bring fascinating nuances.
Fun fact, your name Rocío in my native language means tomorrow.
Looking forward to hearing more and connecting across our shared passions.
You're definitely in the right place!
Warm greetings from Kenya,
Simon.
Hello Simon, and thank you very much for your warm welcoming message! 💚
First of all, sorry for my late reply, but I've been busy settling in Germany these past days.
Again, I'm very thankful for your appretiation of all of my work and effort. My strongest motivation is to be a good professional so I can try to make the world a little better. 🌍
Regarding your question, in Germany I'm working specifically with blackbird migration. So, the most surprising thing to me, and what we're trying to figure out is, why do they migrate if maybe they're already in a pretty good environment? Also these birds are not so big, so making those long distance trips, for example from France to Poland, is impressive! 🐦⬛
That fun fuct is so nice, makes me feel like my name brings hope to the future, to our tomorrow!
Thank you so much again for your comment and I'm also looking forward to sharing and connecting.
Kind regards from a Spaniard in Germany,
Rocío
