I am a Lawyer of the Cameroon Bar Association with years of experience volunteering and working in wildlife conservation and environmental protection and sustainable development. I currently work for TRAFFIC - Central Africa as the Legal Assistant – Wildlife Law Enforcement and Collaboration for an INL-funded project. I have experience in wildlife case monitoring/research and delivering capacity-building training in wildlife crime/conservation litigation and Environmental Justice. Following my work as a MENTOR-POP (Progress on Pangolins) Fellow, I contributed to the uplisting of Pangolins to CITES Appendix I, and its reclassification to "Class A" (highest level of species protection in Cameroon), as well as the C4ADS report, “Tipping the scales”.
I am interested in Wildlife Conservation/Environmental Law and Policy, and social behaviour change across the different wildlife conservation and environmental protection stakeholders.
Hi! My name is Fay and I'm a budding chiropterologist. I've been researching bats since my postgraduate degree in 2016. I have worked for both conservation NGOs and ecological consultancies in Mauritius, Malawi and the UK. Now I am studying towards my PhD at Kyoto University where my research focuses on one of the lesser known endemic species, Myotis pruinosus.
DR WATUWA JAMES
ZOO AND WILDLIFE VETERINARIAN /CONSERVATIONIST, UGANDA WILDLIFE CONSERVATION EDUCATION CENTER 2. FOUNDER ENDANGERED WILDLIFE CONSERVATION ORGANIZATION (www.ewco.org.ug)
I am a Primatologist specialized in captive and wild nonhuman primate sociobiology, with a PhD in Evolutionary Biology. I have 17 years of experience in development project management including 5 in Biodiversity Conservation, with experience in East and Central Africa, and the Middle East. I currently live in Ouesso, a city in northern Congo where for the past 2 years I have been coordinating a program called Sustainable Wildlife Management - SWM. SWM is about creating the conditions for rural communities in northern Congo to manage wildlife resources themselves, taking ownership and exploiting them in a sustainable way. As part of the SWM Program, I am responsible for aspects related to the development of alternative activities to hunting (livestock farming), development of social marketing campaigns for more sustainable consumption of animal protein, and mitigation of risk of zoonoses. I therefore often find myself having to involve stakeholders...
When I was ten I decided to study marine biology and become an expert in sharks, unfortunately suffering from sea sickness I decided to change plans.
So I started my path by graduating as a chemical and biological laboratory technician and studying environmental science. Right out of university I was able to volunteer for a year in a natural park as an environmental educator and marketing assistant.
Due to family problems I had to help in the family business and I employed my expertise in finding new sustainable materials used in the small fashion company my family owned until Covid.
In 2021 I opened my own company focusing in localization and marketing services to support sustainable initiatives such as:
- translating subtitles for courses focused on decarbonization and circular economy
- localization of the Earth Hero app, thanks to the Proz Pro Bono initiative
I am currently finishing a 6-months course to become a front-end developer and help clients creating unique pages to promote their initiatives.
Dimitry ZINVOEDO
Student and Assistant to the Biodiversity monitoring Officer , Oiseaux et Horizons
I studied Management of Natural Resources at the Université Nationale d'Agriculture du Bénin, where I earned a bachelor's degree upon completion of a study focused on assessing anthropic threats on the Monotes kerstingii population, a tree species in northern Benin, within the forest of Tchaourou-Toui-Kiolibo. Following my studies, I completed a one-year internship at CREDI-ONG (Centre Régional de Recherche et d'Education pour un Développement Intégré), where I actively participated in various activities such as marshbuck monitoring, bird counting, and more.
In 2019, I presented a conference on challenges related to biodiversity protection in Benin and France at Refuge de l'Arche in Château-Gontier, France.
Subsequently, I joined Oiseaux et Horizons, an NGO that promotes birds through sustainable tourism and awareness. Next year, I plan to pursue a Master's degree in Ecological Engineering at Corsica University.
Dillon Hanson-Ahumada
RAY - Marine Conservation Fellow, Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC)
Hello there! My name is Dillon Hanson-Ahumada and I am a conservation advocate and lover of all things wild. I recently graduated with a degree in conservation biology and environmental studies and currently work for the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC). At NRDC I work to protect our oceans by focusing on issues including protecting marine mammals, combatting illegal fishing, conserving sharks, helping to advance strategies to fight ocean plastic pollution, and serving as a liaison to community and grassroots groups fighting offshore oil and gas production. Prior to joining NRDC, HI worked on sustainability issues for the public-school system in Lincoln, NE, and was a part of the climate and energy team within the Wilderness Society. In my free time, I enjoy hiking, skiing, wildlife photography, and meeting new people. I am currently based in San Francisco, CA.
I joined WildHub because of my passion for environmental conservation and my interest in connecting with like-minded individuals who are dedicated to protecting and preserving our planet's biodiversity.
I have a degree in veterinary medicine and a deep-rooted interest in One Health approaches that recognize the interconnectedness of human, animal, and environmental health. My experiences in veterinary medicine have underscored the importance of holistic approaches to conservation that consider the health of both wildlife and human populations.
Additionally, I have been a lifelong fan of wildlife, and I am eager to deepen my understanding of this field through engagement with the vibrant community here on WildHub. I believe that by fostering collaboration and sharing knowledge, we can work towards a more sustainable and harmonious relationship with the natural world.
