Hello WildHub community,

My name is Serge Medjo Etounko, and I am a Cameroonian fisheries engineer, environmental practitioner, and Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) Specialist, currently based in Cameroon.

I joined WildHub because I am keen to connect with conservation professionals from different countries, learn from practical experiences, exchange knowledge, and explore opportunities for collaboration. I believe that strong professional communities can help make conservation more inclusive, locally grounded, and effective—especially by connecting field practitioners with wider learning and research networks.

My work and interests focus on community-based conservation, sustainable management of aquatic ecosystems and fisheries, climate adaptation, ecosystem restoration, and resilient rural livelihoods. I have experience in fieldwork, project coordination, communication, and conservation programme implementation, including work with organisations such as APPAA and Tube Awu Cameroon.

At present, I am particularly interested in:

  • Mangrove restoration and conservation

  • Nature-based Solutions for climate adaptation

  • Biodiversity monitoring using environmental DNA (eDNA)

  • Sustainable fisheries and aquatic ecosystem management

  • Blue-carbon approaches

  • Conservation approaches that strengthen coastal-community resilience in Cameroon and Central Africa

I am hoping to connect with researchers, practitioners, organisations, mentors, and potential collaborators working on mangroves, coastal and marine conservation, biodiversity monitoring, restoration ecology, sustainable livelihoods, and environmental governance.

Through WildHub, I hope to learn from other members’ experiences, discover relevant training, volunteering, research, and collaboration opportunities, and contribute my own experiences and perspectives from conservation work in Cameroon and Central Africa.

In the longer term, I hope to pursue doctoral research connecting mangrove restoration, biodiversity monitoring, sustainable fisheries, and the resilience of coastal communities.

I am very happy to connect and exchange ideas. Please feel free to reach out if you work on related themes or would like to discuss possible collaboration.

Thank you, and I look forward to being part of this community!

Best wishes,
Serge Medjo Etounko
