I am an overseas veterinarian from Colombia with a background in wildlife health, and wanting to expand my knowledge into conservation. After completing my Master’s in Global Wildlife Health and Conservation at the University of Bristol thanks to a scholarship, I aimed to build a career dedicated to wildlife protection, particularly for endangered species like the Andean Condor in my home country Colombia. My dissertation, which modeled how vulture population declines in India could impact rabies transmission, deepened my understanding of conservation issues but was also one of my few experiences directly within this field. This made my journey challenging as finding job opportunities in the field without extensive experience has been difficult.

Joining WildHub interested me because of its course on project management for wildlife conservation, which I believe could be transformative for my career path. Additionally, this network will help me to learn from conservation leaders who could share strategies and tools and gain essential skills for impactful conservation initiatives with the Andean Condors back home.  Connecting with experienced professionals will be invaluable as I aim to combine my veterinary background and my passion for conservation to contribute to wildlife preservation in Colombia with both scientific and strategic expertise.

How are you finding the Project Management for Wildlife Conservation course so far? I am taking the course myself and I look forward to learn more about conservation practices. It seems the perfect opportunity to learn loads about project management while also network with fellow conservationists around the world.

Welcome to WildHub, Maria Angelica! 🩺🌿

It’s wonderful to meet another veterinarian with a passion for wildlife conservation! Your background in wildlife health and dedication to protecting species like the Andean Condor are incredibly inspiring. The journey from veterinary science into conservation can be challenging, but it’s clear you bring not only your clinical skills but also a deep commitment to conservation impact. Your work modeling vulture population declines and exploring their role in disease prevention is fascinating and so relevant to broader ecological health.

I truly understand the unique perspective we veterinarians bring to conservation, and I’m excited to see how this community can support you in combining that expertise with project management skills for even greater impact. What strategies are you most interested in exploring for Andean Condor conservation? Looking forward to sharing this journey with you!
