Mists Farm Rewilding

The story so far? Mists Farm has been in my family since just after the war. Since then it has always been rented out as an investment. Following the death of a tenant, and my daughter’s return to the UK we have rebuilt the farmhouse with an oak framed eco friendly farmhouse for her young family.

Our mission and vision for Mists & Bennetts Farm is to enhance native biodiversity, promote the flourishing of wildlife and to increase ecosystem resilience throughout. We will achieve this by using gentle and carefully managed rewilding practices, always guided by the latest scientific evidence. Collaboration with Natural England, the Environment Agency, Rewilding Britain and Cranborne Chase National Landscape will inform our approach, and we will actively engage with our Parish Councils, our neighbours, and other stakeholders.

We aim to involve the community by enlisting the help of local volunteers. We will monitor the progress of flora and fauna, create wood pastures, and implement conservation grazing using British White cattle, Mangalitza pigs, and New Forest ponies to support the natural balance of the ecosystem. Additionally, we will prioritize the nurturing and restoration of hedges, allowing woodland edges to expand, and safeguarding the health of our chalk stream, Sweatfords Water, for the benefit of the natural environment.

Furthermore, we will try to restore salmon populations, a keystone species, to Sweatfords Water, contributing to the preservation and restoration of this vital natural resource.Mists Farm, its a beautiful place.

Dear Stephen,

Welcome to WildHub! It’s truly exciting to have someone like you, who is so deeply committed to rewilding and enhancing biodiversity, join our community. Your work at Mists & Bennetts Farm sounds incredibly impactful, especially with your focus on using scientific evidence to guide rewilding practices and engaging with local communities and stakeholders.

The diversity of species you're incorporating, such as British White cattle, Mangalitza pigs, and New Forest ponies, along with your plans to restore salmon populations, shows a comprehensive approach to ecosystem restoration. What do you think will be the biggest challenge in reintroducing salmon to Sweatfords Water?

We’re eager to learn from your experiences and look forward to seeing your contributions in the community.
