Seeking Guidance from Peers and Professionals

With a Research Master’s in International Development Studies and a Bachelor’s in Global Development and Geography, my work is driven by a commitment to fostering sustainable and just futures through community-led action and justice. My expertise lies in climate change, community development, and gender, with hands-on experience in collaborative research with Indigenous communities in the Global South:
- Master’s Research: Focused on Indigenous Women-Led Climate Change Adaptation Efforts in Palawan, Philippines, conducted in partnership with Community Centred Conservation Philippines and the Tagbanua Community.
- Bachelor’s Research: Examined the Conflict Between Survival and Sustainable Environmental Management among Indigenous Tribal Communities in Northern Thailand, collaborating with Karen Hill Tribes Trust and Global Vision International.
- Additional projects include exploring gender inequalities in Nakuru, Kenya.
I also contributed to the 2023 Community Climate Action Toolkit, providing practical guidance for community groups tackling climate change. I joined as a Research Fellow with the Schumacher Institute (UK) and COMMEET (Netherlands) and later became an Associate Research Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, participating in the Climate Change Research Group.
Most recently, I worked as an Environment and Sustainability Consultant, supporting initiatives in energy efficiency, waste management, and social impact. While my career has spanned NGOs, think tanks, and government organizations, I am deeply interested in community-level conservation and collaborative projects in the non-profit sector, both locally and internationally.
Despite my experience, I have found it challenging to secure employment opportunities post-graduation. I am excited to join WildHub to expand my network, seek guidance, and connect with peers and professionals. I would love to hear from:
- Early-career conservationists, researchers, and consultants navigating similar challenges.
- Experienced professionals who can share insights or tips for breaking into this competitive sector.
Let’s connect and collaborate to advance impactful conservation and development work!

Keep hammering every conservation and sustainable development NGO vacancy that comes up - your academic background makes you very interviewable. And in the meantime look for any opportunities to intern and get some additional experience - anything that adds to your profile and sets you apart from the crowd. Don't be one of the people who give up, and you'll get there. Good luck!
Thank you Jon for the kind words!
A warm welcome to WildHub, Chloe! Wonderful to have you join us and thank you for sharing about your background.
Perhaps of interest to you could be our Conservation Catalyst programme here, which can be a great experience for networking, building your conservation profile internationally as well as sharing other people’s learnings.
Also, I would recommend joining our member Social events (dates here) which is a great way to network with other members.
Specially for our community, @Aliyah Pandolfi at the Kashmir World Foundation, is organising a resume/CV building workshop which will happen early December. If you click on the "follow" buttons of the job opportunities room, the training opportunities room, and the events & networking opportunities channel, you will be notified of any new opportunities shared there, including that one.
Let us know if you have any questions.
Also a thank you to @Jon Taylor for his advice and words of encouragement, much appreciated.
Great ideas Thirza I will follow up on those.
