Jean Ernest Mballa Bimi is a highly skilled Congo Bassin expert with over a decade of experience in forestry, agroforestry, biodiversity conservation, and natural resource management. He holds a Master’s degree in Forest Sciences and a Bachelor’s in Plant Biology from the University of Yaoundé I. Fluent in both French (excellent) and English (Medium), Mballa Bimi has extensive expertise in forest governance, FSC standards, High Conservation Values, and participatory forest monitoring. His technical skills include GIS tools (QGIS, ARGIS), Global Forest Watch, and project management, complemented by certifications in ecological monitoring, REDD+, and wildlife conservation. As a proactive member of professional bodies like the Forest Stewardship Council and Red Colobus Network, he has led multiple projects focused on climate action, community engagement, and sustainable forest management. His ability to train stakeholders, develop operational tools, and coordinate cross-sector initiatives underscores his leadership in environmental conservation and sustainable development.

Early career ecologist, hoping to improve my skills and to network!

I have been working in community based conservation and protected area policy for the last 20 years. I am now employed by the Australian Government in the Kokoda Initiative Partnership. My key areas of work in Papua New Guinea are community land use and management planning, conservation benefit sharing, capacity building and policy. I enjoy traveling and meeting new people. In my home town I take to hiking, skiing and team activities and am involved in my work, local and global community on various committees and appointments. 

I joined WildHub because of my passion for environmental conservation and my interest in connecting with like-minded individuals who are dedicated to protecting and preserving our planet's biodiversity. I have a degree in veterinary medicine and a deep-rooted interest in One Health approaches that recognize the interconnectedness of human, animal, and environmental health. My experiences in veterinary medicine have underscored the importance of holistic approaches to conservation that consider the health of both wildlife and human populations. Additionally, I have been a lifelong fan of wildlife, and I am eager to deepen my understanding of this field through engagement with the vibrant community here on WildHub.
