Student, The College of William and Mary

I am a student at the College of William and Mary where I am majoring in Government and Environmental Science on the Pre-Law track. Currently I am completing research with the Institute for Integrative Conservation at my school. The project involves talking to different African women leaders in conservation to learn more about their experiences in the field and networking with other female leaders. I joined the platform partly to get in touch with African women who would be interested in offering their insight on their experiences.
Leah Stanton Connell

Student, William & Mary

I am a student at William and Mary studying biology and data science, with experience in conservation research. Climate science is my passion, and I am currently conducting research related to African women in conservation, with the goal of identifying platforms that connect these leaders. I joined Wildhub to find contacts that would be willing to participate in this research, and to understand more about the platform.

I'm part of a network for action and protection of primates in Côte d'Ivoire, called RASAPCI. One of our priority intervention sites is the Tanoé-Ehy swamp forest (FMTE). The FMTE is a forest block located in the south-eastern region of Côte d'Ivoire, between latitudes 5°05 and 5°15 North and longitudes 2°45 and 2°53 West. The RNV-FMTE reserve covers an area of over 10,000 ha and is bounded by the Éhy lagoon to the west, and by the Tanoé river to the east and south. It is located in the Tiapoum Department, straddling the sub-prefectures of Noé, Nouamou and Tiapoum. Our research has documented that this forest contains over 1,800 endemic plants, 35 mammals, 15 birds and 4 amphibians, all endemic and/or threatened. The richness and uniqueness of the FMTE fauna make this forest a high conservation value forest, which has helped to confer on it the status of Voluntary Nature Reserve under community management from December 2021.We place the local community at the heart of our activities with a view to achieving sustainable actions for the conservation and protection of this RNV-FMTE.

When I was ten I decided to study marine biology and become an expert in sharks, unfortunately suffering from sea sickness I decided to change plans. So I started my path by graduating as a chemical and biological laboratory technician and studying environmental science. Right out of university I was able to volunteer for a year in a natural park as an environmental educator and marketing assistant. Due to family problems I had to help in the family business and I employed my expertise in finding new sustainable materials used in the small fashion company my family owned until Covid. In 2021 I opened my own company focusing in localization and marketing services to support sustainable initiatives such as: - translating subtitles for courses focused on decarbonization and circular economy - localization of the Earth Hero app, thanks to the Proz Pro Bono initiative I am currently finishing a 6-months course to become a front-end developer and help clients creating unique pages to promote their initiatives.
