Abby Chalkly

Nursery Assistant, Woodlands Nursery and Forest School

The opportunity to travel and grow up internationally instilled in me a passion for wildlife and connecting people to nature. I decided very early on that I wanted to pursue a career in conservation, and have undertaken a BSc in Applied Zoology and an MSc in Endangered Species Recovery and Conservation. While at university, I was able to build a range of skills, including conducting surveys, species monitoring, and using GIS. Moreover, I discovered a love of research and how projects are planned and executed efficiently. I have worked in various roles since graduating from university, including as an Assistant Ecologist. Currently, I work as part of a forest school, where children are encouraged to spend time in nature and their passions are fostered. I am undertaking this course to broaden my experience and understanding of project management, helping me set up future projects aimed at connecting people to the world they live in and empowering communities to be part of positive change.
Mahi Puri

Coexistence Scientist, Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden

I am Mahi Puri, originally from India. I currently live in Saipan (a small Pacific Island, near Guam where my husband is pursuing PhD in Marine Biology), while I work remotely for Cincinnati Zoo as a Coexistence Scientist. I completed my PhD in Wildlife Ecology and Conservation from University of Florida, integrating ecological and social science methods to prioritize areas for carnivore conservation in human-dominated landscapes of central India. At Cincinnati Zoo, I work with their global in-situ conservation program, supporting various partners in capacity building and research support. I also lead the zoo's Fellowship Program where I mentor and guide Fellows (from local communities) working on various research projects including elephants in Thailand and India, gorilla-based ecotourism in Congo, human-carnivore conflict mapping in Kenya, songbirds monitoring in Ohio etc. I help the Fellows develop their Theories of Change and execute their projects over a 2-year period including data collection, analysis and writing. I would like to improve my training skills related to project planning, MEL etc, hence this course.   In my free time, I love making pottery, going hiking or scuba diving, or reading on my couch while snuggling with my two cats! :)

Maike

Junior Business Controller Sustainability, Beter Bed

Hi, my name is Maike. Born and raised in South Germany, I am now located in the Netherlands (just moved a few months ago).  My life took a few detours before I ended up here, but they broaden the horizon, right? ;-) Early on, I had two big interests in life: Books and Nature.  First, I explored the first one, books, and completed vocational training in a bookshop. Then, I went to school again to be able to explore the second one, nature, by studying Biology. Well, and then I discovered the realm of sustainability and followed my studies up with the Master's program "Science in Sustainable Development" in Sweden. During that time, I focused especially on corporate sustainability but also the biodiversity aspect of sustainability.  Currently, I am working in a company, as a sustainability business controller but am always looking for a way to integrate nature, conservation and biodiversity more in my personal and professional life.  I am not yet sure where the journey will lead me, but I want to connect with like-minded people and explore opportunities.  Happy and excited to be part of this community!

Mrs Sushma Windsor

Trustee Fundraiser, The Joanna Wildlife Hospital

I was born in Kenya and have lived i the UK for 42 years now. My many years of working with small businesses and running various events to raise the profile of the businesses, has landed me a post for fundraiser Trustee for a UK wildlife Hospital. The founders of the hospital are very seasoned friends of mine and their dedication to saving every wildlife animal bird that comes through their door, is simply inspirational.  Therefore, I want to learn more about writing funding applications and grant applications. I also want to share my experiences of what has worked for us and what has not. Hopefully, we can all become better at doing what we do, through skill sharing.

Liane Fulford

Training Specialist, WildTeam

I'm Liane, and I am a WildLearning Specialist at WildTeam! I'm looking forward to getting to know you all! For the last few years, I've been working in Seychelles, focusing on island and marine conservation efforts, particularly coral restoration and turtle nesting monitoring. If you ask me questions about coral, be prepared for me to get very nerdy about it! Prior to that, I was managing a project in Northern Thailand, where I worked closely with a local community to set up ethical elephant experiences in their village. In my free time, I love running and hiking, and being anywhere in nature. I have also learnt to freedive in the last few years and enjoy doing that when possible. I'm really interested in talking to different people and learning from them and their unique experiences.
