My research focus is the cultural and utilitarian ways rural communities value wildlife with a focus on endangered apes in the Democratic Republic of Congo. I used mixed methods including doing interviews with community members and reconnaissance walks in adjacent village forests. My goal is to work for a conservation organization that partners with communities to find conservation solutions and implement initiatives that benefit both people and animals relevant to the local context. 

I am a recent graduate from the Wildlife Research and Training Institute, with a passion for conservation and a diverse set of skills honed through hands-on experience.  During my attachment program at Kisite Mpunguti Marine Park and my volunteer work with Reefolution Trust, I have gained invaluable expertise in:  Coral Restoration: Engaging in coral planting, nursery maintenance, and out-planting to rejuvenate marine ecosystems. Marine Debris Cleanups: Organizing and participating in cleanups to protect our oceans. Community Engagement: Facilitating group discussions and outreach programs to foster local involvement in conservation efforts. Data Collection and Entry: Gathering and managing data crucial for research and conservation projects. Human-Wildlife Conflict Resolution: Developing strategies to mitigate conflicts between humans and wildlife.  My interests are deeply rooted in:  Wildlife Protection: Advocating for and implementing measures to safeguard endangered species. Environmental Education: Sharing knowledge and raising awareness through my Twitter (X) page. Habitat Restoration: Participating in projects aimed at restoring damaged ecosystems. Community Engagement: Collaborating with local communities to develop sustainable conservation strategies. Policy and Advocacy: Working on policies to support and enhance conservation efforts.  While I currently possess a broad range of skills, I am eager to specialize further and make a significant impact in the conservation community. I will be moving from the US to Costa Rica soon and looking to find work to do there. I am a huge bird nerd but love working with pretty much any animal out there. Wiem Boussellaa is a dedicated marine biologist researcher from Tunisia, specializing in marine conservation and the management of marine ecosystems. With a Ph.D. in Marine Sciences, Wiem has contributed significantly to projects aimed at preserving marine life. Currently, as a postdoctoral researcher at the Stazione Zoologica Anton Dohrn in Naples, Italy, their work focuses on the energy expenditure and ecology of sea turtles during swimming. Wiem has held key roles in various marine conservation projects, including the Life MedTurtles project at the Faculty of Sciences of Sfax and the Deep Blue project with OGS. As a member of the Global Ghost Gear Initiative (GGGI) and a project manager for the Tunisian Taxonomy Association (ATUTAX), Wiem has actively participated in the fight against ghost fishing and has been instrumental in developing a National Code of Conduct for Ghost Gear Management in Tunisia. Throughout their career, Wiem has authored several publications on marine ecosystems and conservation and has been recognized for several innovative contributions to the field. With extensive experience in project management, scientific research, and international collaboration, they continue to drive impactful conservation efforts within the Mediterranean region.

I have designed and instructed field courses in East & Southern Africa from 2 weeks to a month and as I absolutely love this, I continue to do this as a freelancer for universities whenever needed. I worked and still work with with ShareScreen Africa to curate FREE learning experiences through guest speakers. We are still at the very beginning of our journey and have many a plan in store for students hungry for more knowledge and experiential tales from those working in the field. I am working as a Teaching Fellow at the African Wildlife Economies Institute to curate an online learning experience in conservation business and leadership (I am not contributing to content but to dissemination of content). My focus here is the learning management platform and the community we can build that will be full of ideas and new perspectives. The idea with all I do, virtual and in-person, field and classroom based, is to deepen the understanding of leadership amongst our learners, to drive a personal and professional journey in learning that has both vision and ‘future hindsight’. The focus of the learning does not come from the teacher but through knowledge empowerment – peers, online resources, structured and unstructured workshops, projects and using other innovative forms of assessment. Yes, we want to enable immediate application of skills and knowledge, but we also want students to come to their own realisation that the teacher does not know all. That it is up to them. I am a dedicated project coordinator with a strong background in skill development and livelihood projects, currently based in Jharkhand, India. With a Master's degree in social work, I have spent several years working in various community-focused initiatives, aiming to uplift and empower individuals and communities. I am an environmentalist with a diploma in Forestry and Wildlife, as well as a Bachelor's degree in Oceanography, specializing in aquatic ecosystem management. I began my career with the development association, Alternatives Durables pour le Développement (ADD), where I successfully led several environmental and agricultural projects over a span of five years. Recently, I have taken on a new role as a grant writer at Sekakoh Organization, where I continue to apply my expertise in advancing impactful environmental and biodiversity conservation initiatives.

As a dedicated Fisheries officer, I am  at the forefront of preserving aquatic ecosystems and ensuring the sustainability of fish populations. My role involves a balance of fieldwork and strategic planning. On a typical day, i might be patrolling lakes, rivers, or coastal areas, ensuring that fishers comply with regulations such as catch limits and licensing requirements. My keen eye for detail allows me to detect and address illegal fishing activities effectively. I have an experience of 5 years in the Fisheries sector as a manager and 2 years in  Research with keen interests in environment restoration and biodiversity conservation in African Great Lakes and beyond 

I am a passionate conservationist with six years of experience in the field. Currently, I am pursuing a Master's degree in Biodiversity Conservation at Chinhoyi University of Technology and serve as the Acting Head of the Biodiversity Monitoring and Ecosystem Services Department at My Trees Trust. In this role, I manage conservation projects across our three leased areas: Charara Safari Area, Tsetse Island, and Gache Kanyati Community Conservancy. I have a keen interest in modern conservation technologies, including EarthRanger, SMART, GIS, QGIS, and AI Camera Traps. My primary focus is on integrating traditional conservation practices with these innovative technologies to enhance our conservation efforts and promote sustainable practices.
