Uchenna is a Chartered Environmentalist, University Lecturer and on secondment to IFAD-funded LivelihoodImprovement Family Enterprises – Niger Delta (LIFE-ND) Project as Abia State Project Coordinator, a board oftrustee-member of Future Generation University, USA; Chairman - Abia State Chapter of Nigerian Environmental Society (NES); with a doctoral degree in environmental forest ecology. He has over 20 peer-reviewed academic publications, and an international development professional with over 22 years and hasworked at least once in each Nigerian state as an Independent Development Consultant. Also, he hasprovided development consultancy services in India, Nepal, United States of America, Rwanda, Cameroon,United Kingdom and Namibia. Recently, he participated as the Nigerian representative in a-global research titled ‘Developing indicators of Peace’,  piloted by Future Generations University in collaboration with the United States Institute of Peace. Uchenna’s skills include an in-depth understanding of community working systems in developing countries;linking policy analysis and emerging issues to plans; understanding of pro-poor and gender issues indevelopment, an excellent team player, good interpersonal, report writing and communication skills.

My background is mainly in species conservation, education and capacity development. I researched mother-young interactions in gorillas and chimpanzees, in captivity and the wild. After that, I worked for three years in Indonesia, where I developed and implemented youth ambassador and community engagement programmes on local and regional scales. I work as Community Manager at WildHub since 2020, and I am an Associate Member of the Durrell Institute of Conservation and Ecology (DICE) at the University of Kent where I obtained my PhD on capacity development for conservation in 2022.

I lead on the Whitley Fund for Nature's Network Development programme, supporting and creating connections among the 200-strong global network to foster knowledge exchange and collaboration, and strengthen capacity. Previous to this role, I worked for Galapagos Conservation Trust for over seven years across project management and operations/finance. I hold an MSc in Conservation Science from Imperial College London. I am passionate about habitat restoration, the conservation of endemic species and inspiring the next generation of conservation leaders.

I am often called a conservation planning specialist, but my 25-year professional career also encompasses other components of biodiversity conservation projects, such as management; monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL) and technical auditing. Geographically, I specialize in Latin America and Africa, but my assignments have also included the projects in the Middle East, South-East Asia and Europe. I am used to work in different cultural, social and disciplinary settings, involving a number organisations and audiences, as well as a diversity of conservation projects, from large-scale conservation initiatives (Patagonia, the Amazon, Western Africa, Mozambique Channel), to community-based conservation projects (Brazil, Mexico, Peru, DRC). My approach is based on a three-fold background in social sciences, environmental sciences, and geography. My fluency in Spanish, French and English, an increasing proficiency in Portuguese, and a deep cultural and gender sensitivity allow me to seamlessly work in different settings and locations worldwide. I love my work, but besides work, I also I love dogs, being in contact with nature, cooking, reading, meeting new friends and travel.

I am a full professor of biology at the University of Puerto Rico at Aguadilla and a Certified Ecological Restoration Practitioner by the Society for Ecological Restoration. I have a B.S. in General Biology from the University of Puerto Rico - Rio Piedras Campus, anM.S. in Zoology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a Ph.D. in Marine Biology (Environment) from the Duke University Marine Laboratory.  I also direct Vida Marina, the Center for Conservation and Ecological Restoration of the University of Puerto Rico. We are currently working on the ecological restoration of dunes and mangroves along the north coast of Puerto Rico. Our center also works on the conservation of sea turtles on the north western and western coasts of Puerto Rico. We also focus on creating a future generation of ecological restoration practitioners through direct participation of our undergraduate students in real life ecological restoration projects. We also have a student chapter of the Society for Ecological Restoration in our campus through which we are aligning our B.S. in biology curriculum to the Certified Ecological Restoration Practitioner in Training Program so our students can obtain this credential while they work on their degree. I am very committed to ecological restoration of coastal ecosystems as well as the conservation of the organisms that inhabit these ecosystems. I find joy in bringing people back to nature and helping them realize we need to be humble and respectful with other species because they have the same right as we do to inhabit this wonderful planet.

I am a marine biology graduate with an MSc in conservation from Plymouth Uni.
