Help Shape Conservation Policy: Join the BES Policy Lab on Irreplaceable Habitat
I'm excited to share an incredible opportunity from the British Ecological Society and the Journal of Applied Ecology, and I encourage all researchers and practitioners in our network to apply.
What’s the call about?
The BES is launching its first-ever Policy Lab, centred on the critical question:
What is irreplaceable habitat?
This initiative brings together researchers from across disciplines to explore how we define, value, and protect habitats that cannot be replaced - those vital to biodiversity, ecosystem function, and cultural identity.
Why should you apply?
Participants will:
-
Collaborate in a multidisciplinary, international working group
-
Co-author a Policy Direction paper for the Journal of Applied Ecology
-
Contribute to a Policy Brief designed for real-world impact
-
Attend both online and in-person workshops (including the BES Annual Meeting in Edinburgh this December)
Who should apply?
Whether you're early-career or experienced, working solo or in a team - if you have insights into biodiversity, land use, habitat policy, or ecological resilience, this is for you.
Deadline to apply: 15 September 2025 (23:59 BST)
