Apart from walking round a jungle, I think my favorite type of conservation work is strategy development. For me this is the most crucial part of conservation work because if you get it right then you wake up every day feeling confident that you can make a difference, but if you get it wrong you can waste years of effort and countless funds carrying out work that is not well linked to any tangible, measurable conservation impact.
At WildTeam we had previously developed a first version of our best practice for wildlife conservation, some of it based on the Open Standards for Conservation Practice. Over time, however, we saw that the guidance could be even better. So, for the past year, we have been developing the next version of the Strategy Development for Wildlife Conservation. Here it is:
